One of the most historic clubs in Greece. AEK Athens, or The Union or The Double-headed Eagle or The Yellow-Blacks as these are the nicknames that follow the club, is not just an athletic club. AEK Athens represents values such as Democracy, Peace, Humanism and Solidarity. It is a team founded by Greek refugees from Constantinopole. During the bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999, AEK Athens couldn't care less about the danger and took an own initiative. AEK Athens went to Belgrade and played, in front of 40.000 Greek and Serbian fans, a friendly match with Partizan Belgrade. It was an act of protest. Both teams protested against the WAR. At the 61st minute of the match, the fans entered the football pitch and huged each other. This is one of the most notable and most proud moments of AEK Athens. AEK Athens currently helps the Syrian refugees by providing food supplies, water, clothing materials, handicap trolleys, tents, medical (anticeptic) kits, baby food and vitamins. AEK Athens also invites refugees to watch for free the football and basketball matches and hosts special events to entertain the refugee kids. AEK Athens is more than a team.
