Diogo Jota scores on his debut - Liverpool beat Arsenal 3-1
New Liverpool signing Diogo Jota has scored in his first Premier League game for his new club. The Portuguese midfielder capped off a professional come from behind victory by the Reds as Liverpool beat Arsenal 3-1 at Anfield.
Even though the Premier League champions took quick control of the match, it was Arsenal, who would open the scoring in the 25th minute. Ainsley Maitland-Niles brought a ball from the left to the center where first Virgil van Dijk failed to clear and then Andrew Robertson hit the ball only to set up Alexandre Lacazette for the opening goal.
That goal was clearly on Robertson but the Scot would later atone for his sin. But first, Sadio Mané would score the equalizer. Just three minutes after Lacazette opened the scoring Mohamed Salah tested Bernd Leno with a shot from a tight ankle, the ball fell to Mané, the striker tapped the ball across the line for the deserved equalizer.
Then in the 34th minute, Robertson scored. Roberto Firmino and Salah were allowed to combine at the edge of the box, the ball found Trent Alexander-Arnold and his cross was converted by Robertson for the deserved lead. Liverpool then had further chances to seal the game but it was not until the 88th minute that the Reds put a cap on it. Arsenal's David Luiz failed to clear a ball in his own box, the ball fell to Jota and his volley was unstoppable for keeper Leno.
